Dearest Friends who love animals,
As you may know, there is a nationwide call out to our network of people who love animals to stop the repeal of a ban on aerial gunning and other cruel (and currently banned) wildlife killing methods. The votes is on Thursday! Your help is needed now and it only takes 30 seconds. Here are the details:
A sickening amendment is coming up on the floor of the US House this week, and we need your help.
House Joint Resolution 69, proposed by Congressman Don Young of Alaska, would restore the horrific practice of shooting grizzly bears from airplanes on more than 75 million acres of National Wildlife Refuges in Alaska. It would also allow hunters to kill wolf puppies at their dens and trap majestic grizzly bears and black bears with cruel steel jawed leg-hold traps. It’s horrible, and we need to do everything in our power to stop it.
The background: In August 2016, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS), at HSUS’s urging, finalized a rule prohibiting cruel hunting methods on National Wildlife Refuges in Alaska. This rule was attacked in the last Congress multiple times, but we were able to fend it off. However, if it passes the House this time, it’s likely to pass the Senate, and then be signed by the President. We can’t let that happen.
Please call your U.S. Representative early this week and urge him/her to oppose HJR 69 to ensure that egregious hunting methods are not allowed on public lands in Alaska. And then ask everyone in your network to do the same.

“My name is and I am a voting constituent from . I am calling to urge to strongly oppose House Joint Resolution 69, which is scheduled for a vote in the House this week. H.J. Resolution 69 would repeal the Fish and Wildlife Service rule that bans cruel and unsustainable hunting on Alaska federal lands. These cruel hunting methods, like shooting defenseless animals from planes and motorboats, should absolutely not be allowed. And the economic argument against this Resolution is as vital as the humane argument: wildlife watchers outnumber hunters by nearly five to one in Alaska and spend more than $2 billion dollars annually for wildlife recreational opportunities – that’s five times more than hunters spend! I strongly urge to oppose House Joint Resolution 69. Thank you.
